Silver Cloud Inns & Suites is joining the hotel development frenzy in downtown Seattle. The local hotel chain is planning a 23-story building with 170 hotel rooms and ten apartment units at 2033 Fourth Avenue in Belltown. A Jiffy Lube currently operates on the site located kitty-corner from the Cinerama, between a brick apartment building and CVS pharmacy. The existing two-story building will be demolished.

Current plans call for restaurant and bar space on the building’s first floor alongside the hotel lobby and waiting areas. There will be a “decorative staircase” that leads to more restaurant space on its second floor. The hotel rooms will be located on levels 3 through 18. This area will a include a gym and landscaped exterior decks along the building’s northern facade. The 10 apartment units will be located on levels 19 and 20. Floor plans are described as large studios and 1-bedroom apartments. Levels 21 through 23 will feature a conference center, bar with outdoor seating and a rooftop pool deck. There will also be 15 bike stalls located in the basement.

The development will “incorporate a fully glazed first level creating maximum visibility between exterior and interior space.”

According to a Downtown Seattle Association report, there were 2,785 hotel rooms under construction around the downtown Seattle core last summer (including the 1,264-room Hyatt Regency set to open later this year) and another nearly 2,750 in predevelopment. DSA also shared that in 2016 downtown area hotels booked the equivalent of 3.5 million overnight stays generating more than $736 million.

Silver Cloud purchased the property from the Musicians Club of Seattle in June 2016 for $4.85 million. They have hired Third Place Design Co-operative to design the hotel. Silver Cloud typically builds their own projects, however, due to the site’s constraints they may hire a general contractor.

A Jiffy Lube currently operates on the site. Existing structures will be demolished.

A number of hotels are set to open soon, including Palihotel at 1st Avenue and Pine Street, the Curio Collection by Hilton on 2nd Avenue and Stewart Street, and the State Hotel at 2nd Avenue and Pike Street.

Silver Cloud currently has 10 hotels in the Puget Sound region, four of which are in Seattle. An Early Design Guidance Meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on February 20 at Seattle City Hall, 600 5th Ave, Room L280.
